Finance prof recognized for lifetime contribution to profession
Larry A. Wood, a professor in the Haskayne School of Business, has been awarded the prestigious Donald J. Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award in Financial Planning from FP Canada. This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of contribution to and a lasting positive impact on the financial planning profession. As a result of the award, FP Canada has made a $10,000 charitable donation in Wood’s name to “The Youth Singers of Calgary," a performing arts organization that offers choirs, classes, and programs for children, teens, and adults.

“I'm exceptionally grateful to those who thought to nominate me and recognize my passion for teaching," says Wood. “I strongly believe in the positive role that financial planning can play in promoting the well-being of Canadians, particularly in the current economic climate.” According to FP Canada, Wood joins an elite group of professionals, becoming only the ninth person to win this award.
Wood teaches a variety of courses in topics of corporate governance, ethical decision-making and personal finance management. He also had a significant role in establishing the FP Canada-approved education program at the University of Calgary, which has helped educate hundreds of students who have become financial planners today. Additionally, Wood has authored numerous academic papers and textbooks and has extensive experience in helping some of Canada’s biggest financial services firms shift from a product focus to comprehensive financial planning.
