Prof appointed 2nd ethics adviser for City of Calgary

Professor Emily Laidlaw was appointed to the part time position on April 8, 2019.

In 2016, The City of Calgary became the first municipality in western Canada to appoint an Ethics Advisor and Integrity Commissioner. The Ethics Advisor works alongside the City’s Integrity Commissioner Sal LoVecchio, formerly a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench, in the Integrity and Ethics Office.

Former UCalgary Law professor Alice Woolley was the first person in the role. She stepped down when she was appointed a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench last fall.

“I’m excited to take on this important function and am happy to serve City Council and get to know each of the councillors individually,” said Emily in a media release from the City of Calgary.
