For the second year in a row, UCalgary Nursing is once again ranked sixth among Canadian nursing schools in the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject with a one point higher score than 2021.The rankings are calculated on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.

“We are delighted with this year’s results,” says Dr. Sandra Davidson (RN, PhD), dean. “We have progressed from ninth place in 2019 and 2020 and the fact that we have maintained our top ten status again this year means we are doing what we had hoped to do and it is being recognized. Of course, we plan to burst into the top five in the coming year!”

The QS World University Rankings by Subject lists the world’s top universities in individual subject areas, covering 51 areas. The goal is to help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in their chosen field in response to high demand for subject-level comparisons.

While UCalgary Nursing’s prominent placement on the list is indicative of the faculty’s vision and is very satisfying, Davidson says the faculty is more about students, faculty and staff realizing their full selves, through their work and/or education.

“We want to be the nursing faculty of choice because of our aspirations to a culture of excellence, resiliency, inclusivity and wellness. That is the basis for how we want to be rated. But the QS ranking is further proof we are doing that.”

The top nursing school, as ranked by QS, is at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by King’s College London in the UK and Johns Hopkins in Maryland.
