Library introduces new tool to support Open Access publishing
Do you want to publish your research in an Open Access journal without spending a fortune? The UCalgary Library now has an easier way to search for Open Access journal publishing discounts and waived fees across publishers and disciplines: SciFree's Journal Search Tool (JST).
Through agreements with certain publishers, article processing charges (APC) discounts are available to UCalgary authors interested in submitting to selected journals. Discounts range from 10% to 100%, depending on the deal and the publisher. SciFree’s JST allows for further transparency on finding and understanding these agreements.
The JST is an accessible and user-friendly platform that enables researchers to search for APC discounts by journal title or discipline. It outlines journal publishing models, subject areas, payment options, and licensing types so researchers can decide which journal best suits their publishing needs.
Why Publish Open Access?
Publishing Open Access leads to increased research dissemination and citation, allowing knowledge exchange without the restrictions of paywalls. Researchers can meet funder mandates, retain their rights, and contribute to impactful scholarship globally. UCalgary Library supports Open Access in several ways, such as our partnership with the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (select Elsevier) and the Partnership for Open Access .which supports Canadian Open Access journals. The Library also hosts and preserves a range of research outputs through its digital repositories, PRISM and PRISM Data, and hosts dozens of Open Access journals through its journal hosting program.
