Event launches next cohort of Parex Innovation Fellows
Reception and networking celebration June 25 will feature announcement of fellowship winners and panel discussion with campus research leaders

The University of Calgary is hosting an award celebration and networking event to celebrate the next Parex Innovation Fellowships.
The fellowships, which are funded by Parex Resources, support researchers in translating promising technologies and social innovations into real-world impact.
They span a wide spectrum, including technological advancements, social initiatives, and novel approaches to addressing complex challenges. The support helps drive the university’s culture of entrepreneurship, contributes to its three-year record of being Canada’s number-one startup creator, and anchors it in the Calgary business community.
The celebration of the university’s entrepreneurial spirit will be held on June 25 at the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking on campus.
It will include an announcement of the award winners from the Haskayne School of Business, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Work and Schulich School of Engineering.
The event will also feature a panel discussion with research leaders from the Schulich School of Engineering, Haskayne School of Business and the Faculty of Science.
About the panellists
Dr. Colin Dalton, PhD, associate professor in the Schulich School of Engineering and scientific director of Microsystems Hub, a high-tech machine shop.
Dr. Marc Strous, PhD, professor and Canada Research Chair in Earth, Energy and Environment and founder of Synergia Biotech, a startup company.
Dr. Mohammad Keyhani, PhD, associate professor at the Haskayne School of Business and founder of DigitVibe, a digital product and startup studio.
Dr. Mea Wang, PhD, professor in the Department of Computer Science who has led many industry projects, resulting in four U.S. patents and five software releases.
About the Parex Innovation Fellowships
The fellowships are made possible by a $3.24-million endowment by alumnus Wayne Foo and Parex Resources Inc., a Calgary-based company involved in oil exploration, development, and production in Colombia. They are designed to: encourage diverse innovation by supporting researchers across the university to explore new ideas and insights that drive innovation, and facilitate innovation transfer from concepts into practical solutions.
