Congratulations to Linguistics masters student Lyndon Rey for the successful defence of his MA thesis, Quantifying the Role of Prosody in the Perception of Deception on April 6, 2021.

Congratulations to French doctoral student Francis Apasu for passing his Oral Field of Studies Examination on March 26, 2021. Francis’ areas of interest are language planning, language attitudes and educational policies.

Congratulations to LLAC doctoral student Masako Shimada for passing her Thesis Proposal Exam on February 26, 2021, and for completing her candidacy requirements. Masako’s thesis proposal is titled Effects of Japanese Prosody on Comprehensibility: A Comparison of Different Techniques for Training L2 Japanese Prosody. Masako’s research interests include Japanese phonology, L2 acquisition of phonology, and pronunciation teaching/pedagogy.
