Christine Friedenreich shares what inspires her about her trailblazing cancer research

The work of Dr. Christine Friedenreich, PhD, has been used to develop physical activity guidelines for cancer prevention, rehabilitation and survival for people around the world. Her role as a pioneer in the field of cancer prevention and control has been recognized by the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), who have elected her as a Fellow in the RSC’s Division of Life Sciences (Medical Sciences).

Friedenreich is an adjunct professor in the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and Faculty of Kinesiology and a member of the CSM’s Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and O’Brien Institute for Public Health. She is also scientific director of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research, a research department of CancerControl Alberta at Alberta Health Services.

Nominations for Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada close Dec. 2, 2019. The Royal Society is the recognized pre-eminent body of independent scholars, researchers and creative people in Canada whose Fellows comprise a collegium that can provide intellectual leadership for the betterment of Canada and the world. Election to Fellowship in the Society is the highest academic accolade in Canada that is available to scientists and scholars. Nominations must be made by a current Fellow and two co-nominators, of which at least one must be another Fellow.
