2020 Tidswell Teaching Excellence winner announced
Professor Nickie Nikolaou, Associate Dean (Academic), is the winner of the 2020 Howard Tidswell Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence. The award is presented annually to a faculty member or instructor, on the nomination of her students and peers, who demonstrates high-level teaching performance, methodology and contribution to curriculum.
“Nickie is the epitome of the Tidswell ethos,” says Professor Lisa Silver. “She impacts every facet of the law school and we are all better for her efforts, and she shows excellence in teaching and learning with everything she does and is.”
Nickie is a high performing instructor who thoughtfully and carefully crafts her course materials. As Associate Dean, she is a teaching and learning innovator, and she is always open to advice on teaching and student engagement. Together with Lisa, Nickie was recently awarded a Teaching and Learning Grant from the Taylor Institute for their research into experiential learning in the law school’s advocacy course.
“Nickie represents the essence of selfless commitment to our students, and to our school,” adds UCalgary Law dean Ian Holloway. “She’s an absolute joy to work with. She is the personification of duty, and sets an example for us all to follow.”
“I am delighted to be recognized by my colleagues and students for my work in enhancing teaching and learning excellence in our Faculty. Winning this award is a tremendous honour and could not have come at a better time,” says Nickie.
