What you missed at the campus town hall

On May 3, more than 400 people attended in-person and 225 joined online to hear about the current state of the university at the campus town hall. President Elizabeth Cannon, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Dru Marshall and Vice-President (Finance and Services) Linda Dalgetty, above, shared updates on major accomplishments over the past year, the federal and provincial budgets, the financial position of the university, and funding of strategic initiatives, including the Haskayne School of Business expansion project and information technologies projects.

Among the highlights shared, Cannon celebrated the results of 2018 Giving Day, which saw more than $940,000 raised through the generosity of close to 1,400 people on April 26. Cannon also discussed the federal and provincial budgets that prioritize post-secondary education and students, as well as investigator-led, curiosity-driven research that will benefit Canada.

UCalgary’s consolidated 2018-19 budget is balanced at approximately $1.4 billion. Marshall gave a breakdown of the budget itself, including decisions related to key strategic initiatives.

Dalgetty also shared updates from the Information Technologies (IT) portfolio, which included introducing the new chief information officer (CIO), D'Arcy Moynaugh, as well as server and website upgrades, and the upcoming IT strategy that will guide the work of the unit moving forward.
