UCalgary nursing students support One Health in the Park
Term 3 nursing undergrads part of interprofessional team at community event hosted by One Health @UCalgary last month

Several second-year UCalgary Nursing students were on site at on Sunday, Sep. 15, at the beautiful Native Gardens at Fish Creek Provincial Park for One Health in the Park: Pooches, Plants & Pests.
The Faculty of Nursing was a collaborator with One Health at UCalgary for this fun-filled and informative community event. Experts were on hand to share their knowledge and answer questions as participants spent time immersed in nature. They were also able to gain the knowledge needed to keep children and pets safe from potential health hazards, such as parasites, wildlife-linked dog diseases, and common toxic plants. Participants were guided on a nature walk through parts of Fish Creek Park to discover the unique plants and wildlife of the Calgary area.
Nursing students along with other UCalgary staff and students greeted guests, invited members of the public to participate in various activities and listened to talks by several professionals. They also provided health tips related to ticks and tick-borne diseases and demonstrated how to remove ticks. In addition, they ran activities and games for children about pet safety.
Students Jeongmin Lee, Jessel Cabagyo, Avery Dickenson, Sandeep Kaur, Delaney Hove, Dlawer Mohammed, Youjin Park, Emma Sison, Isla Spotwood and Instructor Nicole Smith from the Faculty of Nursing were present.

One Health at UCalgary (OH@UC) was founded in 2019 as an emerging, cross-cutting research theme with support from the Office of the Vice-President (Research).
