UCalgary continues to climb Pitchbook’s Top 100 list
After first cracking into PitchBook’s annual Top 100 list of universities last year, the University of Calgary has moved up four places to number 96.
This global list represents universities whose alumni with an undergraduate degree from their institution have been successful in raising venture capital over the last decade.
From January 2015 to August 2026, UCalgary has produced 249 founders from 218 companies that have raised a collective $18.5 billion in capital. The top five UCalgary alumni companies by amount of capital raised are:
- Uber ($13.7 billion)
- Dapper Labs ($643 million)
- Eavor ($562 million)
- Neo Financial ($550 million)
- Deep Genomics ($241 million)
Just this year, Eavor has been named No. 2 on Time’s World’s Top GreenTech Companies 2026 list and received the 2026 Overall CleanTech Innovation of the Year from CleanTech Breakthrough Awards. The Calgary-based geothermal technology company founded by Paul Cairns, BComm’99, has been supported by UCalgary’s innovation ecosystem. It is an alumni company of Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) – Rockies, being part of the CDL Energy stream in 2018-19.
Based in the Haskayne School of Business, CDL-Rockies helps participants reduce the barriers that prevent their innovations from having a massive impact. Innovations are stress-tested, preparing founders to successfully commercialize.
“UCalgary truly is Canada’s entrepreneurial university, and our continued success in the PitchBook Top 100 list demonstrates our impact,” says Dr. William Ghali, MD'90, vice-president (research). “Our research community and innovation ecosystem is here to support industry and community on their commercialization journeys.”
