Symposium Showcases Social Work Research for a Rapidly Changing World
2020-21 has been a period of incredible and rapid change in our world, and the profession of social work has been rapidly adapting to new realities in practice and in research.
I sincerely hope you'll join us on March 3, 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. as we host a unique, and I believe very important Faculty of Social Work Research Symposium. Fittingly, this year's theme is Social Work in a Time of Change: Opportunity and Action.
We have a terrific lineup of presenters confirmed, including two leading keynote speakers: Dr. Michael Hart, Vice Provost – Indigenous Engagement, and Dr. Julie Drolet, Professor and leader of the amazing Transforming the Field of Education Landscape, National Project.
Our symposium will also feature three engaging panels that address key transformative issues in our shifting times, focusing on Social Work Research, Social Work Practice, and Social Work Field Education. These panels will engage faculty members, students and community members across the province.
This year promises to provide additional insights, issues and provocative questions focused on the shifting times we're living in. We are excited by the depth and breadth of our 2021 symposium presentations, and we look forward to engaging with you in rich discussion and collaboration.
The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary is one of the largest faculties of social work in Canada. We're also a highly research intensive school, in line with the University of Calgary’s Growth through Focus strategic direction.
Our annual symposium always highlights our impactful research and focuses on key principles of social work: promoting change, mobilizing research into practice and enhancing social justice. However, this year promises to provide additional insights, issues and provocative questions as we really focus on addressing the shifting times we're living in. We are excited by the depth and breadth of our 2021 symposium presentations, and we look forward to engaging with you in rich discussion and collaboration.
See you there!
Dr. David Nicholas
Faculty of Social Work, Associate Dean of Research and Partnerships
