Six employee perks to take advantage of this summer
Riley Brant, University of Calgary
When most employees think work benefits, their mind jumps to pension plans and flex spending accounts. But employees working at the University of Calgary can take advantage of a whole host of employee comforts and discounts that go above and beyond the basic benefits.
Here are six perks you will want to keep in mind as summer ramps up.
1. Explore kids' camps on campus
Though there’s no discount for employees to join a kids’ camp on campus, proximity to their place of work is convenient for parents who want to provide a cool summer experience for their kids — without the lengthy commute.
Active Living has a number of open positions for more than 30 inspiring camps including:
- Mini Brick Builders
- Girls' Applied Science and Engineering
- Broadway Bound
- Science Tech
- Dinos sports camps
2. Take in a show
If you’re looking for some on-campus entertainment this summer, the School of Creative and Performing Arts has you covered. UCalgary employees and one guest can take advantage of 50 per cent off regular admission for all dance, drama and music performances.
3. Get active for less
Looking to get fit for your summer vacation? Save hundreds of dollars with employee discounts on single and family Active Living memberships. Facilities include the Fitness Centre, climbing wall, Racket Centre, Olympic Oval, Aquatic Centre, gymnasiums and more.
4. See Broadway on a budget
Employees can get the best seats in the house with advance ticket sales for Broadway Across Canada shows. As an added bonus to securing your tickets ahead of the general public, each ticket sale means a $10 donation to UCalgary.
5. Use emergency childcare
Being a working parent can often throw interesting hurdles into our work and personal lives, especially when school is out during the summer. UCalgary has partnered with Kids & Company to provide innovative solutions to support employees and assist when emergency childcare is required.
Pre-register for emergency care online and get access their 14 Calgary locations.
6. Secure your ride
As the weather improves, many UCalgary students, faculty and staff take advantage of the university’s connecting bike pathway system to ride to class and work. But if you forget your bike lock at home and want to keep your favourite two-wheeled vehicle safe and secure, head to the Outdoor Centre where you can buy a new lock for $30, or rent one for $3 per day.
Recognition & Reward is one of the 13 factors illustrated in the National Standard.
