Senior Policy Advisor (Health), Dean's Office, Cumming School of Medicine
The Dean's Office in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Senior Policy Advisor (Health). This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA), headquartered at the University of Calgary, is one of the thirteen virtual institutes of CIHR. CIHR-INMHA has a mandate to support research that enhances knowledge of the brain, mental health, neurological health, vision, hearing and cognitive functioning and to reduce the burden of related disorders through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation. CIHR-INMHA supports innovative research that provides new knowledge of the biological and socio-cultural processes underlying cognition and emotion in the context for good health, mental ill-health and addiction. The mission of CIHR-INMHA is to foster excellence in innovative, ethically responsible research in Canada that aims to increase our knowledge of the functioning and disorders of the brain and the mind, the spinal cord, the sensory and motor systems, as well as mental health, mental illness and all forms of addiction. CIHR-INMHA seeks to translate this new knowledge into a better quality of life for all Canadians through improved health outcomes, health promotion and health care services.
The Senior Policy Advisor reports to the Scientific Director (SD) and the Associate Scientific Director (ASD) of INMHA.
The Senior Policy Advisor will work closely with the SD, ASD, Assistant Director (AD) and other team members and work collaboratively with key staff at CIHR and other branches, divisions and institutes of CIHR as well as with key officials as required.
The incumbent will support the SD in their efforts to provide public policy advice to government and community stakeholders.
Obtaining a Federal Government secret security clearance will be required.
The Senior Policy Advisor will support the SD in his role in the development and provision of relevant strategic and operational advice, policy options and recommendations on significant issues related to key research initiatives and strategic public policy priority areas under INMHA’s mandate. This will include undertaking multiple institute projects with a particular emphasis on research in substance use and mental health involving significant internal and external collaborations.
