Dr. Sean Grondin, MD, has announced that he will leave his role as head, Department of Surgery, effective Nov. 1, 2020. Sean will continue his clinical and academic work in Calgary as he pursues new leadership opportunities with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the James IV Association of Surgeons.

Sean began his role as Calgary Zone clinical and academic department head in 2016 and has done an outstanding job. He has provided tireless leadership, shown a strong commitment to promoting excellence in the delivery of patient care and has expanded the department’s academic mission by implementing innovative initiatives, including a new program aimed at young surgeon-scientists. Sean is a valued member of the CSM’s and AHS’ leadership teams and his contributions will be greatly missed.

In the coming weeks, AHS and the CSM, in collaboration with the Department of Surgery’s leadership team, will begin the search and selection process to fill the department head role. Sean will continue to be active in this role during the transition period.

We want to thank Sean for his invaluable service and wish him the best success with his ongoing work and new opportunities.

Sincerely,
