Four members of the University of Calgary community appointed
When Governor General of Canada David Johnston recently announced 70 new appointments to the Order of Canada, the University of Calgary community probably recognized a few of the names.
It was a proud day for a couple of faculty members, Allan Bell of the Department of Music and Dr. Merril Knudtson of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, who were both appointed Members of the Order of Canada (C.M.).
Local business icon Lois Mitchell, who chairs the advisory board of the Latin America Research Centre at the University of Calgary, was also appointed as a C.M.
Playwright Sharon Pollock, a friend to the university’s drama department and arts community, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
They will be invited to pick up their insignia at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa at a later date this fall.
