The O'Brien Institute notes the passing of Dr. Larry Svenson

The Institute noted with great sadness the passing of Dr. Larry Svenson, PhD, Executive Director for Analytics and Performance Reporting at the Alberta Ministry of Health, on March 24. As the Provincial Health Analytics Officer, he worked collaboratively with many Institute members and other stakeholders to strengthen analytic capacity in the health sector, and was a key figure in Alberta's data-driven culture. He had adjunct appointments at both the Universities of Alberta and Calgary, and was one of the Institute's earliest members, joining in 2009. He greatly appreciated the Institute's knowledge translation efforts, and arranged for our first funding agreement with Alberta Health, aimed at "Strengthening public health intelligence capacity in Alberta". His grateful colleagues knew him as a champion of epidemiology and public health, and he will be missed enormously both personally and professionally.
