A message to alumni from Dean Ian Holloway

We are all in this together, even if, paradoxically that means being socially distant for the next while.

Dear friends and colleagues,

The past month has been a time of unprecedented change for all of us as the global challenges posed by COVID-19 continue to escalate. During this very stressful time, our UCalgary Law community has demonstrated remarkable adaptability and empathy. It hasn’t been easy for any of us, whether at the law school or in the legal community at large, to make the quick transition to online learning and remote working. But we have done so, and I am confident that each and every one of us will come out on the other side stronger and more resilient than we ever were before.

Many of the legal challenges that will arise as a result of the pandemic have yet to be realized. I look forward to working with you, our faculty and staff, and our law students to tackle these challenges head on, whether that is through providing legal services to vulnerable communities, or conducting leading research in the challenges and opportunities that have been revealed during this time.

In closing, I would like to remind you to be kind to yourself. We are all in this together, even if, paradoxically that means being socially distant for the next while.

With warmest wishes to you all,

Dr. Ian Holloway, PC QC
Dean, UCalgary Law
