Mentorship Kick-Off Breakfast!

CCAL launches all their programming for the year with a breakfast event for students, business leaders and faculty

On Sept 27, the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL) hosted its annual Haskayne Professional Mentorship Kick-Off Breakfast at the University of Calgary Downtown Campus. The Community breakfast acts as a launching point for the start of all programs, including the Haskayne Mentorship Program. The Haskayne Mentorship Program allows students to be paired with industry professionals to learn about the industry, network and grow as a business professional.

Julia Martin, a fourth year marketing student and one of the mentees in the program felt excited about the start of the program as the of the kick-off event day came closer.

“I really enjoyed the breakfast and good to get to know other students and mentors in the program. Learning about leadership in the morning is the best way to start your day!” Martin stated.

The breakfast included presentations about CCAL initiatives, including an introduction to the Haskayne Professional Mentorship Program, and an in-depth look at the Adventure Education Program. Director Jenny Krahn started the presentations off with a marvelous welcome and introduction to the morning’s program. Keynote speaker Adventure Education faculty member Julian Norris challenged the audience to think about themselves critically and interact with others around them. His insight on how Adventure Education is able to shape people into becoming amazing leaders was truly incredible. Doctor David Lertzman wrapped up the presentations with some of his insight on Adventure Education and the value of being open to opportunities that form amazing experiences.

Bruce Levy, one of the mentees in the program, had this to say about the keynote speaker “Julian was very amazing and made me think about myself in a deep way that I never thought about before.”
