In Memoriam: Macy Michelle Boyce

Our University of Calgary community mourns the tragic loss of Macy Michelle Boyce on Friday, June 17, 2022. Macy was looking forward to starting her fourth year in the Bachelor of Arts in international relations program and will be greatly missed by her friends and classmates throughout UCalgary.

A beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, Macy was taken far too soon at the age of 20 years. She left this world together with the love of her life and boyfriend of three years, Ethan Halford, whose life was also tragically lost. Ethan, a natural athlete who competed at the highest level of amateur wakesurfing, was studying civil engineering at the University of Saskatchewan.

Macy was an ambitious and intelligent young woman. Her maturity and sense of personal responsibility were due in part to her participation in Police Cadets; she aged out of the program in 2019 with the rank of sergeant. An avid traveller who eagerly sought out new experiences, cities and cultures, she was making plans to go abroad to practise her French bilingualism. An advocate for women's rights, animal welfare and social justice, Macy was known for speaking out for causes she believed in.

Macy loved her family and friends fiercely, and always offered a hand of help to those in need. She was funny, outgoing and vibrant, but those who knew her best recognized that she was also reflective and thoughtful. She will be remembered for her big laugh, sharp wit, brilliant smile, striking eyes and caring nature. Macy will be deeply missed by all lucky to have known her.

In living memory of Macy, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary.

Macy’s obituary, as well as a place to share a memory of Macy, can be found here.

The lowered flags are located at the south entrance to the university campus.
