The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) is mourning the passing of Dr. Gil Schultz, MD. He was 78.

Gil earned a doctorate in biology from the University of Calgary in 1970. After completing postdoctoral studies in Colorado, he returned to UCalgary, becoming a professor in the departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1983. He continued as a professor within the Faculty of Medicine, now named the Cumming School of Medicine, until 2004.

He held several leadership positions, including assistant dean (research) and acting associate dean (research) during his tenure at the university. He also guided over 25 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and was named as primary author or contributor to more than 100 published research articles.
