In Memoriam: Dr. Lawrence A. Fisher, Cumming School of Medicine

The Cumming School of Medicine is mourning the loss of Professor Emeritus Dr. Lawrence A. Fisher, PhD. ‘Lawrie’ passed away peacefully on June 3, 2021. He was 97.

The last surviving member of the original medical school faculty, Dr. Fisher came to Calgary in February 1970. He served as director, Division of Education Planning and Assessment, responsible for the evaluation of the educational program and its participants, and professor of medical education.

Lawrie's responsibilities grew over his 18 years in the faculty until his retirement in 1988 as professor emeritus of medical education. His legacy includes supervision of 19 graduate students during his career. Other career highlights include four years as a part-time educational consultant to the Faculty of Law, while the program was being developed.

A private graveside service will be held in the fall at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
