It is with profound sadness that the University of Calgary community mourns the loss of Connor Frizzell, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at the age of 22. He had been completing his Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in biological sciences, at UCalgary and was passionately looking forward to pursuing graduate work. Those whose lives Connor touched in the UCalgary community are heartbroken to say goodbye to this spectacularly unique individual with such a kind and gentle soul.

While growing up, Connor read voraciously and loved hockey, baseball and mountain biking. He was Willy Wonka and Prince Charming in school plays. He was a valedictorian. He liked to give back by volunteering at various places, including CUPS and the Foothills Hospital.

Connor helped support his education and hobbies by working as a bartender at The Keg. Those hobbies included building a high-spec gaming computer to take on all challengers in various video games, and being a knowledgeable and highly opinionated film buff with a love for Tarantino movies. Despite his private nature, he was a well-read citizen who loved to engage in debate. His cat, Winnie, slept on his lap as he studied or gamed, and he loved to take his dogs, Coco and Benny, for long walks. Many more bright chapters were still to be written.

Connor will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents, Neil and Shona Frizzell, and sister Katie, who is a UCalgary student in the Haskayne School of Business — as well by his grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousins, friends and many throughout the UCalgary family.

A memorial service will be held at McInnis and Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Connor’s obituary. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Connor’s name directly to the Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB  T2C 2T7, telephone 403-205-4455.

In living memory of Connor Frizzell, a tree will be planted in the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes.

The University of Calgary campus flag will be lowered to half-mast in honour of Connor for the duration of Friday, Sept. 11.
