The Cumming School of Medicine has been saddened to learn of the passing of clinical assistant professor Dr. Chris Rebus, MD, on Sept. 3, 2025. He was 54 years old.

Rebus was an emergency room physician based primarily at the South Health Campus and faculty member in the departments of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He is remembered for his dedication as a physician, teacher, leader and patient advocate, caring deeply for his colleagues and the vast relationships he built.

Rebus graduated from the University of Calgary — where he met his future wife — with a Bachelor of Science in Archeology in 2000. He then obtained his medical degree in Australia and returned to UCalgary, completing a residency in Family Medicine in 2009 and speciality training in Emergency Medicine in 2010.  Through the years, Rebus made numerous contributions to resident education and quality assurance and received several awards for his clinical and educational contributions. He also completed a leadership training program at UCalgary’s Haskayne School of Business in 2017.

Rebus is remembered by family as a passionate lifelong learner with boundless curiosity and a collector of fascinatingly unique items, including fountain pens.

Memorial services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Sept. 20, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. Gifts in his memory may be directed to the Calgary Health Foundation (calgaryhealthfoundation.ca).
