Libraries and Cultural Resources offers public tours of Indigenous art in recognition of Orange Shirt Day

Treaty 7 artists feature prominently in new Indigenous Art Collection and Adrian Stimson exhibition

In honour of Orange Shirt Day on September 30, Libraries and Cultural Resources will offer public tours of its new Indigenous Art Collection and exhibitions. 

Join Nickle Galleries Curators Christine Sowiak and Michele Hardy along with Marina Fischer at 10:30am and 1:45pm for guided tours of two new exhibitions in the Nickle Galleries and the Indigenous Art Collection on display in the Taylor Family Digital Library.

All tours will begin from the Nickle Galleries entrance (main floor, TFDL Building). Special guest, Adrian Stimson, will join the tours to speak about his work.

Prairie Interlace: Weaving, Modernisms and the Expanded Frame, 1960-2000

Taylor Family Digital Library Indigenous Art Collection:

A tour of the new art collection, featuring paintings from:

Joane Cardinal-Schubert
David Garneau, MA’93
Alex Janvier, Hon. LLD’08
Adrian Stimson

All are either Treaty 7 artists or have a significant relationship with the University of Calgary.

Glenbow Western Research Centre:

Tour participants can view digital slides and displays of library resources that explore the history and legacy of the residential school system in Canada.
