The Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences has selected Susan Lees-Miller, PhD, as the recipient of the Jeanne Manery Fisher Memorial Lectureship.

A professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dr. Lees-Miller is being recognized for her outstanding contributions to research throughout her career, including discoveries which have been instrumental in advancing the biological basis of radiotherapy: a cancer treatment used by one half of all cancer patients. Dr. Lees-Miller is an internationally renowned biochemist and scientist and has been a pioneer in this area of research for more than two decades. The intent of her research is to find out how radiation can damage cancer cells without damaging the surrounding healthy cells; and to understand how cells repair themselves after radiation treatment.

As this year’s lectureship recipient, she will be the keynote speaker at the Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences annual meeting in Banff, April 2014.
