Holidays at Haskayne

Bringing people together

At CCAL, we believe everyone is a leader in various degrees of development.  This means there is great value in bringing people together to learn from one another.  Last semester’s bi-weekly peer network meetings culminated in “Holidays at Haskayne” – an timely-held event between the end of classes and the start of exams.

Holidays at Haskayne transformed the BMO Financial Group Forum into a winter wonderland – with the happy exception of the weather. On December 9, the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL) and the Haskayne Students’ Association (HSA) hosted over 180 students, one of the largest student events of the year, to celebrate the holiday season and the end of a wonderful semester.

Zahra Syeda, a second-year student, attended the event for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the turnout and the variety of available activities.

“It was such a fun event, full of Christmas spirit to lighten up the exam season that is upcoming,” said Syeda.

Laughter and good cheer rippled across the various festive stations setup throughout the BMO Financial Group Forum. A photo booth with holiday props was setup for students to take pictures with each other to create long-lasting memories. Santa even made an appearance and one of his elves was handing out bags with Haskayne swag. CCAL setup a hot chocolate bar complete with various toppings like marshmallows, caramel syrup, sprinkles and more for students to create their own special holiday beverage. In addition to the hot chocolate bar, CCAL had set up a candy buffet bar as well for students to stock up on candy bags for the long road of finals ahead.

For Eric Mathew, a fourth-year finance student, the hot chocolate bar and his favorite holiday treat drew him to the event.

“I look forward to this event for the hot chocolate bar! Holidays at Haskayne is a great way to relieve the stress of upcoming finals and it really unites the Haskayne community,” Mathew said.
