Meet four members of the Cumming School of Medicine community recently named Top 30 Under 30 by Alberta Council for Global Cooperation.

These outstanding young changemakers are being recognized for leading by example and for their efforts in helping to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030.

From top left to bottom right in the image above:

UCalgary alumna Sundus Khan, BISC’13, advocates for gender equality and works with the Indigenous, Local and Global Health Office to advance global health research and international development.

“It’s time for people of all genders to feel confident, equipped, and have access to equal opportunities by removing traditional roles and stereotypes from society to achieve gender equality by 2030,” Sundus says.

“It’s time to incorporate sex and gender into health research and medicine so that we can advance the well-being of women, girls, and gender minorities by 2030.”

BHSc’19 alumnus Ibrahim Sadiq is in his second year of medical school the University of Alberta, where he co-founded the Black Medical Students’ Association and serves as the vice president external of the Medical Student Association.

“It’s time for our leaders in health, public service, and judicial sectors to represent the populations which they serve,” Ibrahim says.

Class of 2021 med student Crystal Liu says gender, race, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status should not prevent individuals from reaching their full potential.

“Resources should be put towards helping individuals from all backgrounds to learn and build the capacity to create their own grassroot programs and organizations in order to tackle the health problems most prevalent in their communities.”
