Financial Feminism Investing Lab Program Launch

The Financial Feminism Investing Lab is Back!

Earlier this year, the University of Calgary and Movement51 (The51’s not-for-profit organization) piloted the first of its kind, Financial Feminism Investing Lab (FFIL). The FFIL’s pilot program was offered for the first cohort in February 2021, wrapping up in March 2021. Demand for the pilot program was strong, with just over 30 spots, candidates were selected from across Canada and the United States. The FFIL pilot received positive feedback from participants and results showed an increase in investing confidence and capabilities.

Movement51 and UCalgary are thrilled to share that registration is once again open for participation in the FFIL. The Fall 2021 cohort participants will build early-stage investing capacity that appreciates the role of women-led start-ups in our society for economic and social impact. This six-week program will cover evaluating early-stage investing, logistics of early-stage investment, performance assessment and governance for growth.

FFIL offers participants the capability and confidence to activate their capital to meaningfully drive innovation and advance the Canadian economy while improving gender equality. Past participants found more confidence in evaluating new ventures, screening-in or screening-out early-stage investment opportunities, making an early-stage investment decision and detecting gender-related norms in investment decisions. They also felt their confidence in understanding and evaluating the fundamentals of early-stage investing increased, and 88% said they would recommend the FFIL program to others.

Whether you’re an aspiring investor, a new investor or a seasoned one, the FFIL is a great way to learn the ins and outs of early-stage investing through a gendered lens. Applications are now open until October 20, 2021. The Fall 2021 FFIL program starts on October 27, 2021 and is delivered over six weeks through 20 hours of online synchronous and asynchronous learning.
