ETHICAL DECISION-MAKING IN BUSINESS
The CCAL Case Competitions – October (BComm), November (MBA), February (BComm)
The CCAL case competition provides students the opportunity to further develop crucial communication and leadership skills, expand their network, and gain hands-on experience with analyzing cases through realistic simulations of real world business dilemmas. Prestigious scholars and business leaders in North America are invited to the University of Calgary to address Haskayne students, faculty, and the business community to discuss research and scenarios that focus on various dimensions of ethics in the business environment. HASKAYNE ADVENTURE LEADERSHIP
Taking advantage of the University of Calgary’s proximity to some of the most amazing mountain terrain in the world, the Haskayne Adventure Leadership Program is revolutionizing student experience by offering specialized programs that take students beyond the classroom. Leadership Challenge Weekend (November)
The CCAL Leadership Challenge Weekend, part of the Haskayne Adventure Leadership Program, is a unique weekend field course designed to help students practice the real-world competencies, attitudes and self-awareness skills required by advanced leaders in the modern business world. Based at a lodge in the Rockies, students will participate in a range of experiential activities and challenges designed to build their leadership skills.
The Leadership Challenge Weekend will take place on November 1 – 3, 2019. Registration costs $35 and covers transportation, meals, and lodging for two nights. MENTORSHIP
BMO Mentorship Program (March)
The BMO Mentorship Program pairs Haskayne students with established members of Calgary’s business community. Students will learn from seasoned professionals through six one-on-one meetings between September and April to further their personal and professional goals. This program is available to all Haskayne undergraduates (entering year 2 or above) students. Registration for the 2020-21 school year is available early March 2020. MBA LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Haskayne Adventure Leadership Education Is revolutionizing students’ experiences by offering specialized programs that take students beyond the classroom. Through outdoor learning and other bold adventure-oriented programs, students develop skills that empower them to take action through personal development to enhance their professional performance. Mentorship Program The program provides students with the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals through six one-on-one meetings between September and April. Students are provided with self-assessments and a required orientation in advance of the program launch so that students are prepared to think about their goals and come to meetings with their mentor well prepared. Lunch with Leaders: is a lunchtime conversation between a small group of students (5-8) and experienced leaders in an informal, inclusive and intimate setting. Students gain a better understanding of what it means to be a successful leader, and Leaders further enhance their self-identity as business leaders and the opportunities and responsibilities that come with this. East Meets West is a collaboration between CCAL and the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership at the Ivey School of Business. Now in the sixth year, the competition will be hosted at the University of Calgary in 2020. The competition will challenge MBA students from across Canada through real-life business cases to balance the fiscal demands of effective business with the ethical demands of effective leadership. Jarislowsky Dinner and Discussion: the Jarislowsky Fellowship hosts a yearly Dinner and Discussion series
where students have the opportunity to network with industry leaders; who have years of practical experience in a variety of industries ranging from arts and culture, agriculture, oil and gas, not-for-profit and health care. For more information, visit CCAL website here.
CCAL supports research that advances the understanding of leadership and facilitates engagement between Haskayne students and leaders in Calgary’s business community. The centre is housed in the Haskayne School of Business, SH 225.
