Dr. Vikas Kuriachan appointed clinical and academic department head, Cardiac Sciences
The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) are pleased to announce the joint appointment of Dr. Vikas Kuriachan, MD, as the Academic Department Head of Cardiac Sciences, CSM, and the Calgary Zone Clinical Department Head, Cardiac Sciences, AHS. The appointment takes effect July 1, 2023.
In this new role, Dr. Kuriachan will become the Clinical and Academic Head of Cardiac Sciences while Dr. Paul Fedak, MD, continues as director of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.
Dr. Kuriachan completed a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering at Texas A&M University and received a Doctor of Medicine from Queen’s University. He completed two fellowships at the University of Calgary in Adult Cardiology and Clinical and Research Cardiac Electrophysiology and furthered this specialization at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, with an Advanced Electrophysiology Fellowship.
As a cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. Kuriachan has been instrumental in bringing a series of new electrophysiology technologies and procedures to Alberta. He joined the cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology group with the Department of Cardiac Sciences and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute in the summer of 2010 and soon after became program director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Training Program.
Dr. Kuriachan is the former deputy head of education with the Department of Cardiac Sciences and the former medical director of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Services for AHS’s Calgary Zone. His clinical and research interests include physician wellness, complex ablation, integrative arrhythmia care and leading-edge electrophysiology technologies.
