Dr. Todd Anderson appointed senior associate dean, Faculty Affairs

Appointment to take effect on Sept. 1, 2019.

The Cumming School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Todd Anderson, MD, as senior associate dean, Faculty Affairs, effective Sept. 1, 2019.

Todd takes over for Dr. Ron Bridges, MD, whose future plans include a sabbatical starting in September before returning as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Medicine next year.

Todd is a cardiologist, professor in the Department of Medicine, department head of Cardiac Sciences and has been the director of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta since 2010. An internationally-recognized clinician-scientist in the study of blood vessel function, Todd is the Merck Chair in Cardiovascular Research and has a tremendous amount of published research, including three publications that have been cited more than 1000 times.

He has held leadership positions for scientific peer review at the Heart and Stroke Foundation, was chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress and was co-chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society dyslipidemia guidelines panel, responsible for updating the national guide for treating a blood condition that leads to heart disease.

Todd was raised and educated in Calgary, earning his medical degree in 1985 before completing his residency in internal medicine in 1988, his clinical fellowship in cardiology in 1990 and interventional fellowship in cardiology in 1991, all through the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine. In 1994, Todd completed a research fellowship in coronary physiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

The Faculty Affairs portfolio oversees a range of academic medicine programming including the provincial Academic Medicine and Health Services Program, University of Calgary Medical Group, alumni affairs, fund development, communications, marketing and community engagement.

Todd will continue the excellent work being done in Faculty Affairs, with goals of increasing the CSM’s community engagement and pursuing innovative opportunities for faculty to excel through partnerships with AHS and our funding partners.
