Dr. Christopher ‘Chip’ Doig appointed interim head, Department of Critical Care Medicine

Appointment effective Nov. 1, 2020

The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) Calgary Zone are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christopher ‘Chip’ Doig, MD, as interim head of the Department of Critical Care Medicine effective Nov. 1, 2020.

He takes over from Dr. Tom Stelfox, PhD, MD, who was named the Scientific Director of the O’Brien Institute for Public Health.

Chip returns to a role he held before taking a research and scholarship leave with stops in England and Scotland. He is a tenured professor in the departments of Critical Care Medicine, Medicine and Community Health Sciences in the CSM. He has been a professor in the faculty since 1995. Chip has held other leadership roles including President and on the Board of the Alberta Medical Association, on the board of the Canadian Medical Association and the Shock Trauma and Rescue Society.

His research interests include the validation of scoring systems for organ dysfunction and acute lung injury in the intensive care unit, outcome assessment in trauma, and ethics and outcome for organ donations. He is also a past co-team leader for the Alberta Sepsis Network.
