Dinos student-athletes recognized for academic excellence
The University of Calgary honoured 214 Dinos student-athletes this year for achieving Academic All-Canadian or Dinos All-Academic status. Among all faculties, the Faculty of Arts recorded the highest number, with 53 student-athletes earning Academic All-Canadian recognition.
These awards celebrate students who achieved an average of 80 percent or higher during the past academic year while competing on a varsity team. In total, 204 Dinos earned U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian status, with an additional 10 golfers receiving Dinos All-Academic honours. It is one of the largest totals in university history and reflects the dedication Dinos student-athletes bring to both academic and athletic commitments.
Two students were also recognized with Top Academic All-Canadian honours for combined academic and athletic achievement: Nate Beauchemin from football and Gabriela Cross from women’s wrestling. Both will now represent UCalgary as nominees for the U SPORTS Top Eight Academic All-Canadian awards.
Faculties across campus were represented, including Kinesiology, Business, Engineering, Science, Graduate Studies, Education, Nursing, Medicine, Open Studies, SAPL and Social Work. The women’s track and field and cross country programs led all Dinos teams with 24 Academic All-Canadians.
