Congratulations to Catherine Swytink-Binnema!
Congratulations to Catherine Swytink-Binnema for winning the BME Graduate Program's 2020 Director Leadership award. The award is given to students for extensive leadership qualities, enthusiasm, and endless contributions in year 2020.
Catherine is the current president of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Students’ Association (BMEG) in this challenging year of only online events. She has continued with an initiative she started last year as VP Academic, using surveys to collect detailed feedback on required courses, supporting the continuing development of BME classes. She represented graduate student interests at meetings of the department’s education committee, organized two professional workshops for students in collaboration with campus academic services, plus a full-day symposium for undergraduate students to present their research. Catherine also volunteers with Let’s Talk Science (a non-profit organization that empowers children through teaching and outreach in STEM topics), is the Outreach Editor for the Journal of Undergraduate Research in Alberta, in addition to other activities. Her passion for Equity Diversity Inclusion permeates her leadership style and makes her an outstanding recipient of the BME Leadership Prize.
