Congratulations to Chelsea Klinke who is the recipient of a GSA Graduate Citizenship Award for her leadership contributions during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Klinke's dedication to bridging academic and public communities through activist food pedagogy is reflected in over 600 hours of volunteer efforts with agrarian organizations, including FoodScape, Permeate, Grow Calgary, Dirt Boys Urban Farming, Calgary Harvest, and the UofC Community Garden. Chelsea draws from her hands-on experiences when presenting with the CIH Food Studies Interdisciplinary Research Group, co-convening the first annual Food Studies Symposium, spearheading our Department's Recipes Near & Far Series, and co-authoring manuscripts with fellow agrarians on 'food as a tool for social change'. This year, she will continue honing her skills as a Young Agrarian Apprentice while collaborating on community-driven Indigenous Food Sovereignty projects.

Dr. Ben McKay is Klinke's supervisor.

Great work Chelsea!
