Charting new horizons: Empowering healthcare evolution through research and collaboration
The O’Brien Institute for Public Health presents its 2024 research event, Charting new horizons: Empowering healthcare evolution through research and collaboration. This half-day event will showcase O'Brien Institute members and their innovative research in health and health care systems. The symposium will also feature a competitive student poster session, as well as an engaging panel discussion on the Health System Impact Fellowship, followed by a networking lunch.

Abstract Submission Deadline: 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024
Eligible Topics: Work or research addressing public health and health care systems / evolutions in health and health care.
Eligibility: Must be an enrolled student or post-doc. However, posters do not need to be new.
Formatting Rules: Maximum 1-page abstract with 2cm margins & 12-font text using the template below. Abstracts not conforming to this format will be withdrawn from the competition. The abstract must contain the following headings:
- Name:
- Student program (e.g. Bachelor, Master, PhD, Post-Doc):
- Affiliation:
- Abstract title:
- Background: Describe the context and importance of the study and state the objective(s) of the study.
- Methods: Describe the methods used including study design, setting, population, measures, and analytic procedures.
- Results: Describe the results in sufficient detail to support the conclusions. Tables and graphs may be used but must still conform to the single page limit. Note: it is not required to already have results to submit your abstract. You may indicate “results pending” or discuss your hypothesized results here.
- Conclusions: State the potential implications of your research for clinical practice, public health considerations, future research, education, policy, etc.
Submission: Submit your abstract as a PDF document to iph@ucalgary.ca with the subject line "Abstract Submission April 22."
Notification of Presentation: Top ranked abstracts will be selected for poster presentations. Selected participants will be notified by Friday, March 29.
Presentation and Format: If selected, posters will need to be put on display between 8:30-8:45 a.m.
Poster presentations will be held from 10:15-11:00 a.m. You are expected to be at your poster to speak with the judges and event attendees during this time.

Judges & Awards: Presentations will be adjudicated by selected judges. At the end of the forum, monetary awards ($300, $200, and $100) will be announced for the top three poster presentations.
