Campus non-medical mask protocol
Message to the campus community
For the safety of our campus community, UCalgary students, faculty, staff, as well as visitors to campus, will be required to wear non-medical masks in indoor public spaces at all Calgary campuses beginning Aug. 1. This decision was made to align with the City of Calgary COVID-19 Face Coverings Bylaw and applies to all UCalgary facilities.
Starting Aug. 1, you will be required to wear masks in all UCalgary indoor public areas such as hallways, washrooms, and elevators. You are not required to wear a mask in your office unless it is a public-facing area. In classrooms, students can remove the mask once seated, and as long as they maintain a two-metre distance from others. Visitors to campus are also required to wear masks in indoor public spaces on campus.
This also applies to those running or enrolled in summer camps.
Exceptions to mask use in indoor public spaces on campus are the same as those outlined in the City bylaw (while eating, drinking, or exercising in a fitness facility). The university’s protocols for public spaces reflect the guidelines of the Province and the City, and are subject to change as the fluid COVID-19 situation evolves. Please follow our mask FAQ page for the latest information.
Where can I get masks?
Beginning Aug. 4, faculty and staff who are included in worksite safety plans for working on campus can pick up two complimentary reusable masks. Department leaders will receive instructions from Staff Wellness on how to receive their reusable masks. This process will be the same as those used for the distribution of sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. If you’d rather wear your own reusable or disposable mask, you’re welcome to do so.
Students will also be provided two complimentary reusable masks. Details for the distribution of student masks will be announced before the fall term begins.
Those enrolled in summer camps as well as visitors to campus are required to bring their own masks.
We know you may have questions about the mask protocol on campus. Visit the FAQ where you can find the most up-to-date information on this topic.
We are aware that there are a number of reasons someone may not be able to wear a mask. Those requiring such accommodations will be supported as per UCalgary’s Workplace Accommodation Policy and section 4.9 of the Student Accommodation Policy. We thank our community for their care and concern for those requiring accommodations.
