Call for Submissions: Black History Month Art Exhibition at The Military Museums
Hello,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out from The Military Museums in Calgary regarding an exciting opportunity for young and emerging artists in the community.
In honour of Black History Month in February 2024, The Military Museums will host an impactful exhibition in our Atrium. The exhibition aims to showcase the valuable role and sacrifices made by black Canadian soldiers from the First World War to the present day. This will be achieved through the presentation of storyboards highlighting the military history of these courageous men and women and including relevant artifacts and documents. Additionally, the display will feature artwork created by Calgary’s talented artists as a tribute to Black Canadian Military History.
We are currently searching for young and emerging artists between the ages of 14 - 30 to contribute their artwork to be showcased in The Military Museums' Atrium throughout the entire duration of Black History Month, from February 2nd to 29th, 2024. The theme of the art pieces will revolve around depictions of Canada's black military contributions from the past, present, and future. We aim to honour their dedication and sacrifice, educate Calgarians about their significant contributions, and inspire the youth to envision the future roles of Black Canadian soldiers. We encourage artists to explore various mediums, including poetry, paintings, sculptures, drawings, or digital art, to convey their perspectives and creativity.
This is an incredible opportunity for your university's artists to participate and display their work in a renowned exhibition venue, fostering greater community engagement and recognition. If any of your students or faculty members are interested in submitting their artwork for consideration or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. To participate, interested young artists must register by January 29, 2024. Please email communications@themilitarymuseums.ca to be registered as an artist.
Thank you for considering this opportunity for your artistic community. We look forward to potentially showcasing the remarkable talent from your university at The Military Museums during this significant event.
Kind regards,
