Blackfoot art, music, history, culture and site research

Oki,

My name is Jared Tailfeathers I’m a multidisciplinary artist, musician, author, curator and inventor. My work deals with Blackfoot and Indigenous Treaty 7 Art, history, promotion and sustainability, also with public art, design and public discussions. I currently work for Calgary Arts Development (CADA) as a Public Art Project Lead, I am an AUArts Alumni and actively working with the Lodgepole Centre and with other alumni.

Over the past 5 years I have been working on a Blackfoot cultural project about making contemporary work from traditional methods. It has taken me on a journey through traditional Blackfoot territory to important places, lesser-known places, important historic events, techniques, arts/tools/artifacts and relationships (personal and historic). I have been recording all of the info from the journey into my contemporary art, music, workshops, trainings, and a research book with several volumes.

Volume I (research year one) has been published by Durvile and UpRoute Books, the book release event is happening where it all started at the Calgary Central Public Library on the evening of October 10, 2024. I will be doing a book read, artist talk, showing some of the art/music and sharing many of the research photos. I would like to invite you to that event.

I am wondering if the U of C Department of Art and Art History would have interest in purchasing copies of the book in your collection for an example of arts-based research, Blackfoot sites, academic writing and local indigenous historical research. If you are interested this is where to pre-order the book:
