Art Competition: Language(s) in Calgary
Art Competition: Language(s) in Calgary
The School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures (SLLLC) at the University of Calgary invites submissions of new artwork reflecting on the use of language(s) in Calgary. Works can be reflections on language, linguistics, or multilingualism in general or specifically deal with individual languages. In the lattercase, we are particularly interested in languages represented in the language programs offered in SLLLC (Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Spanish) as well in Indigenous languages in which SLLLC offers individual courses (Blackfoot, Stoney, and Tsuut’ina).
- The choice of the medium is open and can include painting, photography, and digitally produced art.
- Works should be two-dimensional and conducive to standard framing and wall display.
- Use of artificial intelligence tools is strongly discouraged and must be disclosed fully and precisely.
- Winning entries will be displayed in the SLLLC spaces in Craigie Hall and honoured with a cash prize of $500 for each selected work.
- Each artist or group of artists may submit up to three entries. Each artist or group is eligible to win only one prize.
- We anticipate selecting six winning entries.
- Entries will be evaluated based on thematic fit and artistic merit, while striving for diversity of areas covered in winning entries.
