Angus Reid Award

Pedrom Nasiri wins award!
Congrats

Pedrom Nasiri has the won the Canadian Sociological Associations’ 2021 Angus Reid Applied Sociologist Award. This award is administered by the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary.  Pedrom received this award for their dioctoral work that examines how the increasing prevalence of polyqueer families articulate with ongoing racial, gender, and class formation projects. Much of Pedrom’s work is guided by critical social theories like critical phenomenology, intersectionality and queer theory that emphasize the need to employ academic theory and inquiry to address everyday social injustices. Pedrom’s work with the PolyamQ people in Calgary and beyond has been influential in building and fostering a community of diverse PolyamQ families. As the nomination letter for Pedrom said “Pedrom is an academic trailblazer with a very promising future both as a scholar and community activist.”

We can’t wait to see the future that Pedrom’s scholarship and activism takes them, the PloyamQ community and the Department of Sociology!
