Staying healthy in the winter time

How do you stay active when it’s -20°C?

With all there is to do in Calgary, staying warm might be the only hard part.

Winter in Calgary comes with fashion challenges – finding boots that are warm enough but don’t make you walk like a lumberjack, debating whether or not to wear long johns under your jeans, styling your hair around needing to wear a toque.

Staying warm while embarking on an outdoor adventure might be difficult, but staying active during winter months is easy.

UCalgary's Outdoor Centre offers a bunch of cool outdoor programs focused on cross-country skiing, mountaineering, ice climbing, snowshoeing and snowboarding. You can learn the basics to get you prepared to make the sojourn into the mountains from seasoned pros. Since we’re so close to the Rocky Mountains, it’s pretty easy to take a day trip for some winter fun.

There are also lots of winter activities to do in the city, like ice skating, tobogganing (anywhere there’s a large hill), cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, ZOOLIGHTS, geo-caching, and skiing or snowboarding at WinSport.

If you want to stay indoors, check out the Fitness Centre on campus. There’s a climbing wall, squash courts, gymnastics centre, swimming pools, and fitness classes.
