Dr. Wenyuan Liao
Dr. Wenyuan Liao has received in January 2020 a Mitacs Accelerate award. Dr. Hassan Khaniani, the intern, will work under the supervision of Dr. Liao on the project “High Performance Computing (HPC) of Full Waveform Inversion and Reverse Time Migration” together with the partner Absolute Imaging Inc.. This project is funded by the Mitacs Accelerate program from February 2020 to January 2021 with a total grant of $45K.

In June 2019 Dr. Wenyuan Liao was awarded the NSERC Collaborative Research and Development grant for research proposal "An integrated workflow for oil-bearing prediction using seismic information and well log data". This is a two-year project funded at $72K/year, with a total budget of $144K. The generous financial support ($96K from NSERC, $48K from research partner) allows Dr. Liao to hire a Postdoc fellow and give summer supports to two graduate students for two years. The project has already started on June 1, 2019.
Dr. Deniz Sezer
Dr. Deniz Sezer was awarded in December 2019 the NSERC Engage grant for research proposal "Spatio-temporal modeling of wind energy and applications to optimal operation of battery storage". This is a grant of $25K for 6 months that will be used to hire two interns who are going to work under the direction of Dr. Sezer to achieve the goals of the project. This project is planned to start on January 13, 2020.
Dr. Quan Long
Our adjunct Assistant Professor, Dr. Quan Long is one of the twelve UCalgary researchers awarded funding under inaugural New Frontiers program. Dr. Long’s awarded proposal is “Developing a Machine Learning Framework for Medical Genomic Projects with Small or Moderate Sample Sizes”. The inaugural New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), launched December 2018 by the federal government, is focused on supporting innovative, interdisciplinary research that has the potential to deliver significant benefits to Canadians. Twelve early-career University of Calgary researchers from across the academy received NFRF funding to pursue their high-risk, high-reward work.
